The goal of modern dentistry is to preserve the natural teeth for a lifetime. It is a well-known fact that the loss of a single tooth can have an impact not only on your dental health, but also on your appearance.
Most tooth extractions can be prevented; however, there are certain conditions under which tooth removal is necessary for the proper health and function of the oral cavity.
A few reasons why teeth have to be removed are:
- Gum disease.
- Relieve crowding prior to braces.
- Teeth fractured in sports or other accidents.
- Impacted teeth (as in wisdoms).
Generally most tooth extractions are simple. The offending tooth is loosened and removed from the mouth. In the case of broken down or multi rooted teeth a surgical approach is taken, where the gum is released and the tooth sectioned to facilitate its removal.
